Privacy Policy

Bargly ("Bargly", "we", "us") is a grocery price-comparison app for New Zealand, operated by Jacob Ko as an individual developer. This policy explains what personal information we collect, how we use it, and your choices. We handle personal information in accordance with the New Zealand Privacy Act 2020.

Information we collect

• Account information (only if you sign in): when you sign in with Apple or Google, we receive your email address and, where available, your display name. We do not receive or store your Apple/Google password.
• Your content: shopping lists and list items (including any items, stores, prices or notes you enter manually), your chosen favourite stores, and — if you use the budget feature — your monthly budget and the shops you log (date, store, amounts, optional notes).
• Notification token: if you enable price-drop or target-price alerts, we store a Firebase Cloud Messaging device token so we can send those notifications.
• Approximate location (only with your permission): used on your device to sort nearby stores by distance. It is not used for any other purpose.
• Camera (only with your permission): used for in-app barcode scanning to look up a product. Scanned images are processed on your device and are not stored or uploaded.

We do not collect payment information. Bargly shows banner ads and uses analytics to improve the app — see Advertising and Analytics below for what is collected and how.

How we use your information

• To provide the service: store and sync your lists, settings and budget across your devices.
• To enable collaboration: when you share a list, members of that list can see and edit its contents and see the display name/email of other members of that list.
• To send the notifications you opt into (price-drop and target-price alerts).

Service providers (processors)

We use the following providers to run Bargly. Your information may be stored or processed by them, including on servers outside New Zealand:

• Supabase — database, authentication, storage and realtime sync (hosts your account, lists and budget data).
• Firebase Cloud Messaging (Google) — delivery of push notifications.
• Apple / Google — sign-in (you authenticate directly with them).
• Google AdMob — banner advertising (see Advertising below).
• Google Analytics for Firebase — app usage analytics (see Analytics below).

Advertising

Bargly displays banner advertisements provided by Google AdMob. To serve ads, Google may collect and process certain information, including device identifiers (such as your device's advertising ID), IP address, and general technical and usage information. Bargly uses non-personalized ads only — this information is not used to build an advertising profile about you or to track you across other apps and websites. You can reset or limit your advertising ID at any time in your device settings. Google's handling of advertising data is described at policies.google.com/technologies/ads.

Analytics

Bargly uses Google Analytics for Firebase to understand how the app is used — for example which features are opened and how often — so we can improve it. This includes pseudonymous usage events and basic device information (device model, OS version, app version, approximate region). It is used only in aggregate to improve Bargly and is not used to track you across other apps or services.

Product prices and images

Bargly displays grocery prices and product images sourced from publicly available supermarket websites. This is product information, not your personal information. Prices are collected periodically and may differ from in-store prices.

Sharing

We do not sell your personal information and we do not share it with third parties for their own marketing. We share information only with the providers above to operate the service, or where required by law.

Retention and deletion

We keep your information while your account is active. You can delete your account at any time from within the app (Profile → account), which removes your profile, lists and budget data. You can also email us at admin@jacobko.app.

Security

Data is encrypted in transit. Access to your data is restricted by row-level security so that only you (and members of lists you share) can read it.

Children

Bargly is not directed at children and we do not knowingly collect information from children under 13.

Your rights

Under the Privacy Act 2020 you may request access to, or correction of, the personal information we hold about you. Contact admin@jacobko.app.
